Words will never be able to fully express the anticipation and excitement that we have to begin this adoption journey. We want to have a semi-open or open adoption with our child’s birth parents and have a life-long relationship with them as we share the most precious gift that anyone could ever give. We understand that you are making a difficult decision and that you want what is best for your baby. We admire your courage to consider such a path for you and your child and we know that your decision, whatever it may be, is a loving one.

We met in college and began dating in 2000. We have shared so many exciting experiences together on this journey called life that helped us fall completely head-over-heels for each other. We have shared many fun family activities and trips together. We enjoy traveling and bike riding. Allan proposed while we were on vacation in Toronto; Cristen was so surprised and of course, she said “Yes!” We got married in June 2009; it was one of the happiest days of our lives.

As our love continued to grow for each other, we began to dream about starting a family. As we went through four years of infertility and treatments, we began considering adoption to grow our family when we became pregnant in May 2013. The joy and excitement of sharing the news that we were expecting a baby with family and friends and all of the fun planning that comes with a pregnancy is something that we will always cherish. Tragically, we lost our precious baby in November 2013 at 25 weeks’ gestation due to pregnancy complications. We have accepted the fact that there would be an increased risk going through another pregnancy, and we have come to the realization that adoption is a miracle and a gift, and that it is, without question, the right path for us. We are planning to adopt again after this first adoption because we both grew up with siblings and we know how much fun life is with siblings!

Cristen and Allan both have families that inspire them and make them feel loved. Cristen is the middle child with an older brother and a younger sister. They all enjoy sharing holidays and family celebrations together and also going out on their mom and dad’s boat to enjoy the lake. Allan is also the middle child with an older sister and a younger brother. We enjoy spending time with Allan’s family on vacations in the summer and lots of birthdays and holidays with extended family.

Allan works as an engineer for a world-leading auto company. He is working to develop and manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. Allan feels that he has applied his skills towards a profession that aligns with his beliefs of having a positive impact on the environment. Cristen is a middle school teacher and has enjoyed working with children ever since she was old enough to babysit. As a teacher, Cristen is passionate about her work as she is able to utilize her nurturing personality and have a positive influence on children. Our careers are flexible and very family-friendly, especially with Cristen having summers off of work and her school district has child care offered in the elementary schools. Of course, all of the grandparents are looking forward to babysitting too!

In closing, we also want to share how much we love our home and community. We have chosen to live in one of the safest communities in our county. We own a beautiful, spacious four-bedroom home in a quiet neighborhood with excellent schools. Our community has all kinds of family-friendly activities and places to visit. We have a beautiful city park being developed next to our neighborhood and we look forward to taking walks and playing with our children there.

We believe that as adoptive parents, we can provide everything that a child will need, including everlasting love, life, and laughter with support from not just us, but our entire family that is eagerly awaiting a new baby’s arrival. Thank you for reading this letter and getting to know us a bit. We are really hopeful and excited to get to know you, should you choose to meet us!

Sincerely yours,

Cristen & Allan
