Dear Expectant and Birth Parents,
Greetings! Thank you for taking the time to look through our profile. We hope this letter and photo book help you get a glimpse into our lives - who we are and what we are like.
Our Decision to Adopt -
We look forward to growing our family through adoption. Mary and all of her siblings were adopted as infants. Cary's mother was adopted as a young child. As a couple, we adopted our son, Porter in 2016. Our lives have been shaped by adoption and the positive outcomes it can have for everyone involved.
We met while in college. Cary was assigned to Mary to help her move her harp to rehearsals. We were friends for two years before we started dating. Once we were together, we knew it was meant to be. We dated for nine months before Cary proposed and we were married a year later. Laughter and humor are a HUGE part of our relationship. After 11 years of marriage we still make each other laugh and smile every day.
Our Family Life -
Our son Porter came into our lives in 2016. He is a ball of energy and love that brightens every day. Porter loves to play outside, so we take many, many, many trips to parks and playgrounds each week. With us both being teachers, we are able to take extended family summer vacations. We own an RV and everyone loves to explore new places (even our dog, Brutus enjoys going on vacations with us).
We are very connected to our family. From the beginning of the adoption process with Porter, every family member was supportive and excited for our journey. When we announced to our family that we were beginning the process to adopt a second baby, the entire family showered us with love and support.
Who We Are As Adoptive Parents -
Love, support and understanding guide how we parent our child(ren). Even though Porter is still very young, it is important to us, as his adoptive parents, that he understands the importance of his birth parents and the creation of our adoptive family. We plan to raise all of our children in a home that embraces the cultural backgrounds of their biological parents as well our family traditions. Adoption is not a secret in our home, it is something to be proud of and celebrated.
As we meet each milestone in the adoption process, it becomes more obvious that adoption is the right path for us as a family. We are excited to continue the positive, loving, accepting and awesome outcomes adoption has brought us so far.
With Much Love,
Cary & Mary
Adoption has played an important role in both of our families. Mary and all 3 of her siblings were adopted as infants. Cary's mother was adopted as a young child. We adopted our son, Porter, in 2016. Our friends and family are very supportive of our decision to adopt. Everyone is very excited for our adoption journey to continue!

More About Our Family
Music is a big part of our lives. We are both professional musicians and music teachers. Cary plays the euphonium (a miniature tuba) and Mary plays the harp. Our music room is packed with instruments, from guitar, to piano, to double bass. Porter loves to play instruments and sing. Whether on the radio, with our instruments, or singing in the car, music fills our lives. Education is very important to us. Cary was the first person in his family to graduate from college and to earn a Master's degree. Mary was the first person, on her father's side of the family, to earn a Master's degree. We believe education should prepare our children for their life goals. We believe our success as parents will be when our children grow into happy, healthy, self-sufficient, adults. So if that is earning a doctoral degree, participating in a work-study program, or getting an internship, we will help our children pursue their dreams through love, guidance, and support. We love to travel. We take advantage of our summer vacations together and travel as much as possible. Our goal is to make it to all 50 united states before we turn 50. After Porter was born, we continued to travel. As a family we have been to Niagara Falls, NY, Phoenix, AZ, Saint Ignace, MI, Washington D.C., and many more exciting places. We often take trips with family and friends. Every summer Cary goes on a "Man's Man" wilderness camping trip with his friends. Mary and her best friend Jenny, go an a travel adventure to a destination they have never visited before. We love the excitement of exploring a new place, experiencing new cultures, and learning more about our world through travel.
More About Cary
Written by Mary: Cary is my perfect match. He is my rock and my best friend. He is kind, loving, hard-working, and dependable. Everything you would hope for in a spouse and co-parent. Cary has an excellent sense of humor. He is quick witted and loves to laugh. Cary is an amazing friend. He is the first person to lend a helping hand. He is always there when you need him and he makes a special effort to make sure you know you are loved. Cary is an excellent provider for our family. He works very hard and is a very dedicated teacher. He takes care of our home and keeps everything running smoothly. But most of all he takes care of Porter and me. Whenever we need a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, he is there. If we get sick, he makes sure we have everything we need. He is loving and supportive and I couldn’t imagine a better friend, spouse, or father.
More About Mary
Written by Cary: She amazes me. I cannot imagine a better wife to me and mother to Porter. Mary Lee has been the perfect match - filling every void in my life I had before I met her, and she continues to be the person I need and love with all my heart. Over the years, as we have grown as a couple, she has created a system of support in which I rely upon, genuinely caring for me. She is thoughtful and kind, and she always puts the needs of others before hers, especially as a mother. Mary Lee is a friend that fits and compliments my sense of humor and interests, and she encourages me to be myself. She does the same for Porter, helping him grow in an environment that enables him to be the best he can be. I couldn't ask for a better companion and co-parent. We know that she loves us not only because she says so, but through her actions and support we receive each and every day. I'm so fortunate to have her with me on this journey in becoming and growing as parents.
